Laser headlights and Carbon Fiber wheels are the only options for the i8. I believe CF wheels are also "un-approved for sale" by the DOT as well.
Will be interesting to see how they're priced.

Make sure to check both boxes.

If they are unapproved for sale... maybe they will be "free" but part of some super expensive option pack?

Would look good on my E36

Yeah, because who doesn't want a car with frikkin' laser beams on it?

The first one looks better, in my opinion. The second one looks slightly overstyled

The entire car is overstyled...

Especially the rear, and the front

It's why I like the simpler wheel designs on it.
Those spindle-y, delicate looking rims don't do it any favors.

And the middle. The interior is surprisingly tame compared to the exterior.

"lasers", aka high intensity LEDs

I know what they really are, but if BMW is going to call them lasers on a car as bonkers looking (in a beautiful way, mind you) as the i8, I'm going to be a child and imagine frikkin' lasers .
The right picture, though.

The question is how many E36's could one set of CF wheels buy?
![]() 02/21/2014 at 18:26 |

All of them

This is a really ugly wheel.

Bmw has been making some strange looking cars recently, the I3 also

"and we do sell THROUGH OUR IN HOUSE AFTERMARKET (wink wink nudge nudge) carbon fiber wheels which would fit your I8, AND we MIGHT be able to work that price into your purchase as a *misc. accessory*"

I might be late to the party, but are you considering purchasing one?

The interior isn't bad though. At least the front half. It's almost Scandinavian.
I'm waiting for i3 and i8 X, Gran Coupe, and GT models.

Yeah, first on the list at dealer. Delivery in July.

That's wonderful! Happy for you. I hope you didn't have to get rid of the SLS, haha.

Nope, room for both. Getting rid of the Range Rover.

Niceee. Worth it.

All fine and good, however this somewhat faddish vehicle shall not make my purchase list until two options are added: A flux capacitor and a Mr. Fusion power unit.

"I believe CF wheels are also "un-approved for sale" by the DOT as well."
I've got a $4k set of BST carbon rims for my street bike that say otherwise. TUV and DOT approved.

Yes, yes it is.

Good to know. I was aware they are available for aftermarket but didn't know if OEMs could offer them yet.

Ah that makes sense. I do see a ton of carbon rims around but now that you mention it I don't recall any being OEM.
